Eight Days Without Sun

When the sun disappears
behind a long flow
of stratus clouds,
winter returns.
The fireplace
brings us
heat on cold nights
in late May.
Snow falls twice
in two days,
blanketing
the green grass
and melting
against the roads
remaining warm,
contrasting
the winter air
lingering in spring.
