Happenstance

The invisible string of reality.
How one person's life ends suddenly
saves a life that gives birth to
generations of people that wouldn't
exist had a stranger not existed either.
It's a balance of happenstance,
the layers of emotions are unmatched
when grief meets relief of breathing
another day. An organ in a foreign body
donated from another helps keep
the patient alive along with
medication to fight off rejection daily.
Happiness for once, sadness for another,
the things that happen, out of your control,
the benefits you reap, the silent tears
you weep. The pull of beauty and despair
all tied together.

For my mom and her donor.
