Remember when I raved about going on walks every day? I laugh when I read those poems back now. Walking in spring is a delight, the weather is still slightly cool at all hours of the day. Walking in summer is hell, the heat feels like walking in an oven. There’s a small window inContinue reading “Allergic to the Heat”

By The Lake
I’m surrounded by people for the first time in months. This feels normal and strange all at once. I don’t think about the virus for long. Later I will reflect on why. Social distancing is in place to protect us. We follow the unspoken rules as best we can. I float on the water andContinue reading “By The Lake”
20 Things I Learned from 200 Days of Meditation
Some days I’m more focused than others. Meditating at the same time every day is ideal. Self-judgment only makes things worse. How many times I come back to the breath is more important than how many times I linger away. I can go for more than ten minutes without needing to look at my phone.Continue reading “20 Things I Learned from 200 Days of Meditation”

Patterns of Summer Rain
I look out to the west to see the mountains have vanished underneath a blanket of heavy rain clouds. For hours, I wait for the rain to fall. Sometimes, it comes and passes within minutes. Other times, like today, it lingers for hours, teasing its arrival while never actually making its way to the plains.
Summer Showers
When the clouds come overhead in the afternoon, remember that all days cannot be sunshine and blue skies. You can’t expect perfection when you know there will be rain. It’s okay, you can’t hear allthe good news you want in one day.
Autumn Leaves in Later Summer
Walking through the woods, I admire the changing leaves on the aspen trees. It looks like fall but feels like summer. I take off my sweater and look at the view that’s similar to the moon. Wide open space with very little human life equates to the feeling of being on another planet. The leavesContinue reading “Autumn Leaves in Later Summer”
